Hello all!
Yes, this is another video game blog. Why write a video game blog, you ask? Well, I am graduating from UC Santa Barbara in three weeks and I’m currently looking to start a career in the video game industry. I think this will be a fun way for me to stay current on video game design trends and hopefully a fun read for any who are interested. Updates won’t be heavy over the next 3 weeks as I begin this blog and stay focused on school, but I hope to update regularly after I graduate.
I’ll let you know a bit more about me before I begin. My name is Dan, and I’m a 21-year-old Financial Mathematics and Statistics major. I recently did a bit of soul-searching and decided that at least for now I don’t want a job in finance. I’ve always been passionate about gaming, and more specifically rhythm gaming. I’m hoping to land a job creating note charts for rhythm games. My dream job is writing the drum charts for Rock Band or any other future game that uses a drum kit peripheral. I would also enjoy writing dance game charts, guitar charts, and really anything that could be thrown at me. My eventual goal is to make my career in game design or production.
I love all sorts of games! I own a Gamecube, Wii, DS, PS2, Xbox and Xbox 360. I will really play almost anything, with the sole exception of sports sims. I’ve never been into sports, although I can see the appeal for sports nuts.
So on to the major question – what will this blog be about? I plan to discuss game design mostly – problems and flaws of current games and what I would do to fix them, and also positive aspects of current games and where I see games headed next. I will also discuss the gaming business and industry. I am hoping that a job in the video game industry will make this blog even more exciting!
Stay tuned, and please leave feedback! I want to know what you think.
